Hi, I'm Dr. jess...
I’m a naturopathic doctor and reproductive health advocate on a mission to revolutionize the way we discuss and approach vaginal and sexual health.
Taking a holistic approach is my passion. I graduated from Western University with a Honours degree in Health Sciences and a minor in psychology then started my journey to becoming a naturopathic doctor at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Having a keen interest in reproductive health from the start, I focused my research and learning opportunities on expanding my knowledge in this area. During my internship year, I was also selected to undergo additional training in reproductive health and fertility. I recognized really quickly how a holistic approach can transform lives – addressing the root cause, focusing on prevention, and providing individualized and low-harm treatments to create life-long changes. The complex nature of our reproductive health requires more than a quick-fix pill or a “one-size-fits-all” option. A comprehensive, mind-body, collaborative, and individualized approach is essential.
I understand the struggle. Dealing with my own experiences of PCOS, chronic vaginal infections, and vaginismus, I have experienced, first-hand, the frustration of having limited options for treatment, feeling dismissed by doctors, and knowing little about what the diagnoses meant for me. This is especially true when we are facing issues that are deemed “sensitive” or “taboo”. Not only do we feel nervous to bring up some of these topics with our doctors, but based on the research they too feel hesitant to talk about sexual health. You deserve way more than this!
Learning about your body is key. Through my time in this space, I noticed that many of the issues patients were dealing with stemmed from poor body literacy because of our sub-par sexual education. There are huge gaps in our knowledge about reproductive and sexual health. Without this vital information, we are left with uncertainty about our bodies and poorer health outcomes. Studies have shown that through health education, we are able to improve our health and quality of life. This is what drove me to start educating and informing people about their bodies, menstrual cycles, hormones, and sex – all of the things we should’ve learned but never did.
